Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CAMHS)
About the Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Children and Young People (CAMHS) CourseThe Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for Children and Young People aims to provide an introduction to the theory and practice of CBT in a Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMH) context, with emphasis on the development of clinical skills. It is predominantly aimed at health and social care professionals e.g. RMN's,
Social Workers, Accredited Counsellors, Medical staff and Occupational
Therapists who have some case management responsibility, and can access
clients with mild to moderate problems of anxiety and depression. We are currently piloting a system whereby those without a core health or social care profession will be considered for eligibility via the Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes framework developed by the BABCP. For information about this route see KSA Portfolio details below.
What is Covered in the Programme?
The Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Children and Young People focuses on the theory of CBT assessment, formulation, treatment and evaluation of children and young people and the clinical skills necessary to apply this theory to practice in a CAMHS setting. The emphasis throughout the programme is on working with specific anxiety disorders and depression. It is expected that trainees will work with two clients, under supervision, though an "adequate trial of therapy" for the duration of the programme. The programme runs for 15 weeks (one day per week on a Friday), twice per year in February and September.
Course FeeThe standard cost of the Certificate programme in September 2012 is yet to be confirmed. However, we have, in the past, received funding for places specifically for CAMHS workers in the North West, allowing us to offer them places for a nominal £200 administration fee. We are hopeful that this will be the case for September 2012, although we cannot at this stage guarantee that funding will become available. We would encourage North West CAMHS workers to apply on that basis, and await information about funding, which will become available prior to any commitment being made. NB: If this funding becomes available, it will be limited to CAMHS workers within the North West region.
