About the Post Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Therapy

 

This programme is a postgraduate diploma in cognitive therapy, validated by the University of Manchester. It is a multi-disciplinary programme run part time (one day per week on a Thursday) for 36 days. The aim of the programme is to provide health and social care professionals working in mental health with the opportunity to develop clinical skills and theoretical knowledge in formulation-based cognitive therapy interventions. The programme is grounded in evidence based practice and is informed by the latest advances in clinical and experimental research. The attainment of clinical competence is measured by validated assessment tools.

 

Programme Participants

 

Applicants for the postgraduate diploma in cognitive therapy will be predominantly qualified members of the main mental health professions (Clinical Psychologists, Psychiatric Nurses, Psychiatrists, Mental Health Social Workers, Occupational Therapists in Mental Health, Accredited Counsellors). Applications from individuals with a background in Medicine, Education and Forensic Psychology, General Nursing and Professions allied to Medicine (Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy) are welcome and will be considered on the basis of the applicants prior experience of psychotherapeutic methods in general and specifically cognitive therapy. Successful candidates will have some existing knowledge of cognitive theory and some experience of the practice of cognitive therapy.

 

We are currently piloting a system whereby those without a core health or social care profession will be considered for eligibility via the Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes framework developed by the BABCP. For information about this route see KSA Portfolio details below.

Private Sector: £8,000
